The pen contains a smooth twist mechanism that accepts Parker style ballpoint refills. There’s no mistaking Gaboon Ebony as there are few kinds of wood that are deep and solid black (unless dyed). Gaboon Ebony heartwood is usually jet-black, with little to no variation or visible grain. Occasionally dark brown or grayish-brown streaks may be present. So named because historically most of the wood was exported from the nation of Gabon, though today it’s much more likely to be sourced from Cameroon. Perhaps the most sought-after exotic wood in the world, as it is the traditional fingerboard “wood of choice” for orchestral stringed instruments (violins, violas, cellos, etc.) with its typically deep jet black heartwood.
